If you want to make money from your business, you need to keep educating yourself as your life goes on. Education doesn’t stop when you leave school or university. So, I’d like to tell you about three of the best business books for beginners.
These are books that have changed the way I go about my business and how I run my life. They’re the books I always go back to when I need some inspiration. So, if you don’t already have them in your library, I strongly suggest that you get them today.
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
If you’ve been running a business for a while, I bet you’ve already heard about this book many times from business influencers. Have you ever actually read a copy for yourself though?
Think and Grow Rich was originally written in 1937, and is often held up as the “classic” book about being successful in business and earning money.
I should warn you that some parts of the book get into metaphysical discussions about the attraction of wealth. This may turn some people off, but the rest of the book is good, solid stuff.

Influence: Influence: Science and Practice by Robert B. Cialdini, PhD
If your business involves any form of selling, and most of them do, you’ll benefit greatly from reading Influence: Science and Practice.
It was first published in 2001, and is based on Cialdini’s 1984 book Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion.
Influence: Science and Practice is an interesting book, as the author, a respected psychology professor, actually spent 3 years working undercover in car dealerships, fund-raising organisations, and telemarketing companies to observe the psychology of persuasion in action.
Because parts of the book reference scientific studies, it can sometimes come across as a bit dry to people who are used to modern, more accessible books. However, there are enough real-world examples and little cartoons in there to keep you interested.
If you want help with improving your sales pitch, or you want to learn how pricing really affects your sales conversions, Influence: Science and Practice is a book that you need to read.

The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason
The Richest Man in Babylon really is one of the best business books for beginners. Even before you start your business, it can teach you valuable lessons about money management.
Don’t let that put you off though. It’s actually one of the best books I’ve ever read about personal finance, money management, and gaining financial independence.
It’s an interesting book because it’s actually a series of fictional stories. These stories are set in the ancient city of Babylon (at one time said to be the largest and richest city in the World).
Due to their ancient setting, the stories in the book often have a Biblical style in their choice of words (thou, ‘tis), but you soon get used to that.
The primary lessons taught in The Richest Man in Babylon are how to save and invest money so that you can become financially independent. However, since the book was originally written in 1926, it avoids giving too many specific details that might become outdated. Instead, it leaves you to read between the lines a little bit to understand how these stories translate into modern life.
An example would be mention of “money lenders”, who nowadays represent banks or credit card companies. In the stories though, they are individual people.
Interestingly, several of the stories involve slaves who are trying to earn the money to buy their freedom. This is a good analogy for people in the modern day who are held captive by debt and forced to work just to survive. They never feel that they’re really living their life the way they’d like to.
I do find the lessons taught by The Richest Man in Babylon timeless though. Once you read it, you’ll be able to make immediate changes that will set you on the path to financial freedom and a debt-free life.
